Paris and Fashion go hand-in hand, and neither disappointed the cads of stars in the fashion and entertainment world who jetted of to the City of Lights this past week. Everyone from Anne Hathaway to Kanye West, Alexa Chung, Kylie Minogue, Tina Turner and Kate Moss took part in Paris Couture week.
Elie Saab brought out the young and beautiful to view another season of his glamorous eveningwear. Fashion Week staple Dita von Teese sat front row with Elsa Pataky and Olga Kurylenko. Wonder who's going to wear that fabulous green and blue number......
Valentino's designer duo stepped it up a notch this season. Where once they had played the safe and traditional card, this season they sent looks out that screamed anything but. Color abounded, and bandage wrapping was de-rigeur. And while the change was good, the response from journalists was decidedly mixed.
Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci has famously called Ciara his muse - and she better be given she was 40 minutes late to the show! (I'm guessing Vogue's Editrix Anna Wintour wasn't too happy about that) After finishing posing for photogs - in SS10 Givenchy no less - the show began. In attendance were other fashion week staples Kanye West and Amber Rose, Paz Vega, Orson Salazar, Anna Wintour and Lou Doillon.
While many in the fashion community seem uneasy with Maison Martin Margiela (Margiela admitted last year he no longer designs his eponymous fashion line), the house's couture show was as elaborate and avante-garde as always. This season showcased pieces which referenced the forties, fifties, seventies and eighties, but in true Margiela fashion were turned upside onto its head. Case in point the fabulous red ball gown which was literally worn upside-down.
This was Karl Lagerfeld's 54th(!) Couture season for Chanel - and only a true visionary such as himself could still be designing the uniquely divine pieces that came down the runway this week. Silver was the theme and the metallic color covered everything from bermuda shorts-suits to rosette confectionary dresses. Celebrities along the front row included Kanye West and girlfriend Amber Rose (side-note what was she thinking with the nude knit hood dress?!), ex MTV-er Alexa Chung, Clemence Poesy, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Tween- blogger Tavi, who's newly dyed-blue hair had many atwitter.
Jean Paul Gaultier visited Mexico this season - showcasing pieces both the UES and a matador could love. Always one to go above and beyond, Gaultier showcased everything from denim to corsets to sexy slips of an evening dress; everything in a cavalcade of colors.
Kate Moss unveiled her new design collaboration with Longchamp. But the handbags weren't what everyone was talking about when they referred to the model this week. Seems Ms Moss and her fashionable gray-hair-streak is cause for a ticker-tape parade: as she left her party at the Ritz, a huge mob of people followed her out and even joined her off the street. The girl's definitely still got it.
Other famous faces of the week? Anne Hathaway - with her darling boyfriend in tow- and Tina Turner watched Giorgio Armani while John Galliano at Christian Dior brought out Kylie Minogue!
The Couture shows may have ended for this season, but don't worry : NYFW starts in in less than 13 days! Better get your Balmain ready....
