From Madonna's cone bra to boudoir staples to sailor stripes done every which way, French designer Jean Paul Gaultier's 50 year career has produced some of the most iconic moments in fashion - and his final show, presented yesterday during Paris Couture Week, was no different.

A bittersweet celebration that pulled out all the stops (and celebrity cameos), Gaultier's Spring Summer 2020 runway was the retirement bash to end all retirement bashes. Model muses including Karlie Kloss, Coco Rocha, Karen Elson, and Gigi and Bella Hadid took to the catwalk, along with A-listers like Paris Jackson and Dita Von Teese. In the audience, fellow fashion greats paid their respects. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy was there, alongside Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, Isabel Marant, Christian Louboutin, Mary Katrantzou, Christian Lacroix, Dries Van Noten, as well as the reclusive Martin Margiela (Gaultier's former assistant) and Nicolas Ghesquière, who cut his teeth as an intern for the designer all those years ago.

The blowout event at Paris’s storied Théâtre du Châtelet showcased over 200 looks nodding to the five decades of the designer's legacy, beginning with a cheeky funeral service (during which a model jumped out of a coffin) and closing out with an on-stage dance party and performance by Boy George.

Uma despedida épica de 50 anos de serviços prestados à moda; o desfile de @jpgaultierofficial lotou o Teatro do Châtelet, em Paris. Começou com a exibição de um trecho do clássico do cinema fashion “A elegante Polly Maggoo”, de William Klein, seguida de um “enterro” (num caixão com dois cones que lembravam o sutiã que ele criou para Madonna e um vestido de coroa de flores) e shows apoteóticos, como de @boygeorgeofficial . Foram mais de 200 looks que relembraram seus códigos mais famosos: a lingerie, a tatuagem, a androginia, as listras de marinheiro, o jeans couture, a cena underground dos anos 1980 e a camisinha - Gaultier é um dos estilistas mais engajados na luta contra a Aids. Na plateia estrelada, viam-se nomes como @pierrecardinofficiel, em cuja maison ele começou a dar seus primeiros passos na moda, @nicholasghesquiere, @isabelmarant, @inesdelafressangeofficiel, #ChristianLacroix, @carlabruniofficial e @louboutinworld, que assinou parte dos sapatos. Na passarela, o festival de diversidade que Gaultier cultivou desde os primórdios: modelos de todos os gêneros, shapes, cores, idades, origens. Não faltaram suas musas de sempre, como a ex-modelo @faridakhelfa, a atriz @amanda.lear, a brasileira @cristinacordula, a performer @ditavonteese, @anna_vrc, @raquel_zimmermann e @cocorocha, que até balé dançou, em meio às tops de hoje, como @gigihadid, @bellahadid, @karliekloss, @valentts e @winnieharlow.
