Yesterday, the Cancer Research Institute continued it's annual tradition of honoring leaders whose contributions to cancer research and treament brings the institute closer to controlling and even preventing cancer. This year's invite only, black-tie gala took place at the posh Mandarin Oriental Hotel in midtown and honored fashion designer Michael Kors' contributions to cancer research.
Michael Kors, who was awarded the Oliver R. Grace Award for Distinguished Service in Advancing Cancer Research, was not the only familiar face to recieved recognition at last night's event. In fact, the 2010 Grace Award - the top cancer service award - was also given to GlaxoSmithKline chief executive Andrew Witty whose company is one of the largest pharmaceutical and healthcare companies in the world.
Actual scientists were honored at the dinner as well: Haruo Ohtani, Wolf Herve Fridman, and Jerome Galon earned the 2010 William B. Coley Award for Distinguished Research in Tumor Immunology.
