What inspired you to create The Setting Collective?
I’ve always been drawn to creating memorable experiences for people. Whether it’s a dinner party, holiday, or a birthday, I love going the extra mile to make the occasion one-of-a-kind. I was unfortunately laid off due to COVID-19, and while I knew my true passion was event planning, I also knew the event industry would be changing drastically and it all didn’t seem possible for me in the near future.
My inspiration came a couple years ago when I attended a waterfront wedding on Shelter Island. The tables were low, bohemian-style surrounded by gorgeous rugs and pillows. From then on, I’ve been captivated by Boho-style picnics. For my first “test” project this summer, I did a picnic setting in the Catskills with just a couple of friends - I spent a week searching for props, and styling the set-up with straw baskets, rattan lanterns and Moroccan blankets. I was really passionate about the creative process, and I realized these small outside gatherings became a great opportunity to do what I love while remaining COVID-friendly.
