This is too cute not to report, but after this we will totally STOP talking about yesterday (i.d. Valentine's Day). Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz throws a Cupid’s Ball every year at the Brooklyn Marriot for couples in NYC that have been married over 50 years. They lay out a red carpet which couples walk down amid cheers, then they head into the ball room for some rug-cutting, some yellow cake, and some sweet champagne—and a few long-winded speeches. The resounding advice the silver-haired hairnet set bestows upon us for a long and happy marriage? “The secret is respect, and learn to be patient with each other,” says Christine McFadden married 62-freaking-years. “It’s not easy.” Um, yeah.
