COMMUNICATION! If there is anything I have learned from Drinks First, it is that no matter what kind of relationship you are in, most problems and things could be avoided by having open lines of communication. I don't necessarily think that people seek that out in partners, but they should.
It is hard to say other desirable traits because it truly is subjective based on person to person.
