The Great GoogaMooga Festival Is Coming To Brooklyn

Superfly Presents, or the geniuses behind Bonnaroo and the Outside Lands, have created a new festival called The Great GoogaMooga Festival. An event the cast of Hey! Arnold would have been all over, GoogaMooga is a FREE two day festival seeking to celebrate music, drink, and the main highlight, food in Brooklyn's Prospect Park, sans tents of course.

Superfly collaborated with David Rockwell, CEO of the Rockwell Group for the overall creative direction. Unlike Superfly's more popular festival Bonnaroo, the GoogaMooga Festival is focusing on celebrating food and drink, promoting up-and-coming chefs and restaurants.The festival will include eight different food and drink pavilions corresponding to a specific theme, almost like the Epcot of Brooklyn. A few pavilions include,

-The Hamageddon: a rock n' roll pig inspired pavilion curated by Allan Benton.

-The UrBarn: In collaboration with non-profit, Just Food, this pavilion will host seminars focusing on nutrition, sustainability, and dining locally.

- The Beer & Wine Experiences: Inspired by Munich's Oktoberfest and Napa's Wine Country, this pavilion will be hosting 35 crafted brewers and 30 winemakers selected by Garrett Oliver, Paul Grieco, and Peter Eastlake.

-The Pizza Experience: The city's best pizzerias will be featured in this pavillion. It couldn't be New York City festival without Pizza!

Why GoogaMooga?

According to Superfly's Jonathan Mayers, "GoogaMooga" is an old DJ term meaning, "cool" or "awesome." They wanted to create a unique name that everyone would immediately recognize. What's more unique than GoogaMooga?

Why food and Brooklyn?

Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz and Department of Parks & Recreation Commissioner, Adrian Benepe explain it the best, explain how, in recent years, Brooklyn has become increasingly active in promoting culture through great food, drinks and music.

Marty Markowitz explained that,

"Brooklyn is the Creative Capital of New York City and an international culinary destination..."

Adrian Benepe additionally added,

" New York City and the borough of Brooklyn are celebrate for their thriving culture, vibrant music scene, and exotic foods. There's no better way to enjoy all three at once than in Brooklyn's backyard, Prospect Park."

What about the music?

GoogaMooga is an event that will bring people because of the music but will make them stay for the food. Including both local and world-renowned artists, the line-up will be released in the next few weeks. The performances will be on two stages throughout the weekend.

Extra Mooga

Of course any great festival has its VIP section, GoogaMooga's VIP section is called "Extra Mooga," and it is located in the wooded section of the park. This section will be ticketed, costing around $250 for both days. Performances by Aziz Ansari and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy will be featured in Extra Mooga.
