Under the cover of the middle of the night, the Mets fired Manager Willie Randolph. After the mediocre beginning to this season that followed the team’s epic collapse last September, people having been speculating on Randolph’s possibly losing his job. Pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto were let go early this morning as well—just two hours after the Mets' 9-6 victory over the Angels. Bench coach Jerry Manuel will take over managerial duties in the interim as the Mets front office decides who they want to lead its $138 million investment.
