Brook Astor's Son, Anthony Marshall, Found Guitly Of Fraud And Criminal Possession Of Stolen Property

[Frederick Hafetz , Anthony Marshall's lawyer pictured Left] As an anxious press crowd gathered around the visibly sullen Frederick Hafetz, Anthony Marshall's defense attorney, months of inter-family turmoil enveloping uptown New York concluded with a few short statements outside the Manhattan Supreme Court. The lawyer proclaimed that his client, son of the late Brooke Astor, "plans to appeal." He also somberly asserted that, "Anthony loved his mother."

The jury did not agree, finding Marshall guilty of both fraud and criminal possession of stolen property. For these crimes he may face up to 25 years, ultimately a death sentence for the 85 year old.

The jury declared Anthony innocent of two counts of falsifying documents as well as grand larceny, undeniably a small victory but not amounting to much in the laundry list of felony accusations, and certainly not enough to win Marshall freedom from his sealed future as a prison inmate, far from the grand homes he has known throughout his privileged life.

The sentencing is scheduled for December 8th, another cloud hovering over Marshall, now a convicted criminal.
