If you've ever been a woman on the internet, you can probably guess why.
Last night, Chrissy Teigen, Alyssa Milano, and thousands of women (and men!) on the microblogging platform called for a day off to not only stand in solidarity with actress Rose McGowan, but to encourage the site to do better when it comes to abusive messages and the way women are treated. Ironically enough, #WomenBoycottTwitter has become a trending hashtag.
After Rose McGowan weighed in on Harvey Weinstein, and began to call out other powerful men in Hollywood, Twitter suspended her account - an act that felt a lot like silencing a victim. For Chrissy, though, the move goes deeper than that.
Before logging off for the day, Teigen Tweeted, "I'm boycotting for many reasons. To stand with the victims of sexual assault, online threats and abuse. And to boycott the fact our demented, pussy grabbing president can tweet nuclear threats of war I can't even see."
Ladies. Let's do this. #WomenBoycottTwitter. Not because of hate but because I love this platform and know it can be better.
