Shuttered Society Staple Le Cirque Is Having A Can't-Miss Online Auction

Take home a piece of New York history with some fancy Big Top flair. 

Iconic society haunt Le Cirque, which originally opened in Manhattan in 1974, is auctioning off a treasure trove of collectibles acquired by its famous founder, Sirio Maccioni, through the decades. 

Known for launching the careers of countless chefs, and serving the likes of Frank Sinatra, Julia Child, various presidents, and royalty, the legendary French restaurant officially closed its doors on New Year's Eve 2017. Though it still maintains active locations in Las Vegas, New Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, a New York City comeback is currently in the works. 

Until then, the Maccioni family will be honoring the legacy of both Le Cirque and the man behind it, who sadly passed away last year, by sharing this historic collection with the public.

The auction, taking place online in association with Black Rock Galleries and Red Fox Contemporary Art, features "over 300 lots including large original works by Milton Glaser, the ‘monkey murals' from the original 65th Street location, a Leroy Neiman lithograph, works by Robert Cenedella, Le Cirque branded china and silver, and Sirio’s personal collection of monkey collectibles."

Mauro Maccioni, one of Sirio’s sons who worked by his side at Le Cirque said, "The items in this auction convey my father’s passion for gastronomy, art, luxury and most of all playfulness. This sale reflects a wonderful chapter from Le Cirque’s history, and my family and I look forward to maintaining my father’s legacy throughout our restaurants worldwide long into the future."
