Sorella
Tucked into the fringe of Chinatown on a tiny stretch of road on Allen St, Sorella would be easy to miss without its glowing come hither sign. Journey inside however, and be transported to the Italian countryside. The restaurant's exposed balsa-wood walls, softly upholstered seating and soft ambient lighting are the perfect backdrop to indulge in the elegant and luxurious flavors of Piedmont, a region famous for its Barolos and Barbarescos, some of of the best wines in Italy. Though the restaurant does offer a few entree selections, the best way to experience owner Emma Hearst's menu is to bring a few friends and order several dishes from the "
Qualcosina" section, Italian for "a little something."
The portions are all big enough to share, but in many cases you just might not want to. Each dish is thoughtfully composed with big flavors, bold textures, and just the right amount of everything. Standouts include the grilled quail with tangerine juice fried potatoes, Taggiasca olives and beet butter, and the Broccoli Fritto with pickled hot pepper aioli, Grana Padano cheese and basil. Can't get that dish out of your head the morning after? The restaurant's owners have just published their own cookbook with recipes for all their favorite dishes so you can make them right at home.
