In this new generation of "no-reservations" restaurants, diners must practice the ultimate form of patience and get used to the idea of sometimes having to wait hours for what can turn out to be two chairs squeezed around a tiny excuse for a table. Things can get just as crowded at Battersby, a 28-seat restaurant, where lines form down the street every night before the restaurant opens its doors at 5:30. But trust us, your patience will be rewarded as extraordinary things happen at this seemingly ordinary-looking place. It is a marvel that the kitchen is run by merely three men, as the dishes they churn out are thoughtfully composed plates that make you forget your humble surroundings and transport you to the fine dining establishments of Manhattan, where we're used to such splendor and delight.
