You win some, you lose some - especially when it comes to New York's dining scene. After a year of classics shuttering their doors due to rising rents and luxury condos, locals and newcomers alike have a rebirth to celebrate. Pastis, Kieth McNally's famous French bistro, a staple of the downtown scene, has returned after a five-year hiatus, and it just might be better than ever.
Located a block away from where it originally opened in 1999, the resurrected Meatpacking District spot has all the same rustic, Parisian vibes, subway tiles, and plush banquettes as the original, but spread throughout three rooms - a much larger space. There is plenty of that signature sidewalk seating, which celebs would miraculously take advantage of despite an ever-present cloud of paparazzi, and which we're sure they will again. According to Eater, A-listers like Lorne Michaels, Julianna Margulies, Jay McInerney, Salman Rushdie, and Nicole Miller have all already stopped in.

The menu, of course, still boasts those iconic steak frites, but with restaurateur Stephen Starr now on board, there are some new additions like skate Moutarde, veal Escalopes, filet au poivre, and "avocado and toast" (we mean, it is 2019).
Though nothing will come close to the era of New York the OG Pastis represented (and notoriously played host to), this second-coming is sure to see nostalgia give way to the next wave of social scenesters and eaters.
