Other details: Last night, Van Cleef & Arpels presented New York Academy of Art’s Tribeca Ball. Taking note from Van Cleef & Arpels’ current collection, the school was transformed into an ‘enchanted garden.’ With security in tow, models were dripping with Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry and papier-mache floral head wreaths. Student galleries were set up throughout New York Academy of Art’s five floors, offering a dizzying array of fresh face talent. The students eagerly greeted partygoers as they mingled through their studio space. The evening honored art world veterans Laurie Simmons and Carrol Dunham; Simmons posed with a nearly nude Adam & Eve while sporting a floral Marc Jacobs number. GQ’s Glenn O’Brien arrived early, walking through the labyrinth-like studios. Orange Is The New Black’s Dascha Polanco grooved along to the Lady Moon & The Eclipse performance, while Laura de Gunzburg, Julie Henderson, Hassan Pierre and friends took advantage of a nearby photo-op. Before chatting with designer Misha Nonoo, Marjorie Gubelmann caught up with Bazaar’s Chrissy Rutherford and Style.com’s Todd Plummer.
The fifth floor proved to be action packed, where students created artwork in real time and Vogue’s Grace Fuller, Anna Grace Givens, Rey-Hanna Vaikili and Alexandra Michler posed for the PHHHOTO Gif Booth. Harley Viera Newton arrived just before dinner, wearing a distressed Chanel frock. Event chair and Teen Vogue Editor Amy Astley also donned Chanel, a Tribeca Ball donor. Last year’s honoree, Bob Colacello posed near his portrait by Martin Saar, while MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden perused the galleries with artist Dustin Yellin. Guests were then led into dinner, where they were greeted by soft fuchsia lighting and exaggerated butterflies overhead. The evening supported scholarships for the Academy’s emerging talent.
