The Metropolitan Museum App Launch and Interpol Concert
Where: The Metropolitan Museum
Other details: Last night The Metropolitan Museum hosted a special event to celebrate the launch of their new mobile iOS app. The night began with members of the Met team and Bloomberg, who helped develop the app, showcasing the features. Loic Tallon described how the team went about developing an app that would be intuitive and reach as many people as possible, rather than targeting any particular group. Tourists who only have a few hours to spend at the Met can use it plan and get the most out of their experience, while locals can stay up to date with current exhibits. There are also Easter eggs hidden in the app, for example the 'artwork of the day' pops up if you rotate your phone to landscape mode.
Following the presentation of the app, which is already available on the Apple App Store, guests walked down the corridors of the Met getting a private glimpse of the ancient statues and artifacts. They made their way to the Temple of Dendurn for the Interpol concert, where Met members and a few lucky people who grabbed the public tickets convened. The museum's post-college-oriented organization Spectrum hosted the concert and reception for a couple hundred people, who all huddled near the stage after grabbing beers or wine. Interpol finally came on, starting off with on of their most popular songs "Untitled" from their debut album over a decade ago. The band swiftly moved from track to track of their new album, El Pintor, which comes out next Tuesday. After their set ended, guests cheered them on for an encore, which they fittingly granted with their song "NYC."
