Ajanjoli Piragua
On a summer day or a warm, autumn night, a Piragua is the perfect treat. The delicacy is a Puerto Rican shaved ice dessert, shaped like a pyramid, consisting of shaved ice and covered with a variety of fruit-flavored syrup choices such as cherry, orange, coconut, raspberry, pineapple and more. The hard-to-find Ajonjolí flavor (Sesame Seed) shaved ice is a delicious exclusive flavor that can only be found in New York City’s Spanish Harlem neighborhood, usually sold by street vendors, known as piragüeros, in small colorful pushcarts.
