Despite the sensationalized reports and right-wing insistence that New York has become a lawless hellscape, the truth is, well, things are just fine. In fact, the official data shows that crime in the city is overwhelmingly down from past decades, even up to the early 2010s.
Of course, that hasn't stopped fear mongering drama queens from breathlessly exaggerating the state of things, like, for example, this week's Twitter main character, a woman who tweeted, "I'm a 42 year old born and raised New Yorker. Never in my entire life have I felt the fear, tension, and anxiety I feel living in NYC right now. The city is like a ticking time bomb. Like everytime I step outside my apartment something bad could happen. It's scary to be here."
Since, in reality, the scariest thing about New York right now is the price of rent, fellow New Yorkers and Twitter users couldn't help but dunk on the tweet en masse.
The responses are hilarious and the overarching message is clear: Chill out, lady.
Never in my entire life have I felt the fear, tension, and anxiety I feel living in NYC right now. The city is like a ticking time bomb. I just ate a kale salad outside across the street from where Biggie used to sell drugs. A Doodle in a Susan Alexandra collar trotted by. Chaos.

Never in my entire life have I felt the fear, tension, and anxiety I feel living in NYC right now. The city is like a ticking time bomb. There was a Marc Jacobs sample sale and I didn’t find out about it until it already happened.

Thank you for saying this. I can't tell you how many times I've walked outside and seen someone wearing a dark blue suit with tan shoes. Truly we are living in the most lawless time. https://t.co/AZ2aFqDenM

Never in my entire life have I felt the fear, tension, and anxiety I feel living in NYC right now. Is it acceptible to attend a gala in shorts. Is it worth an extra $4 to get organic peanut butter? Is it ok that I can't help smiling at people on the street? It's awful
