Upper East Siders Are Mourning The Loss Of Dorrian's Legendary Owner, Jack Dorrian

The staff of iconic prepster watering hole Dorrian's Red Hand, and the generations of Upper East Siders who've frequented the local institution, are mourning the passing of its legendary longtime owner Jack Dorrian.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of the great patriarch of the Dorrians name, family, business, community, and history," the bar announced via Instagram this week. 

Opened by his father, Irish immigrant James "Red Dog" Dorrian in 1960, Jack took on the role of proprietor for decades, often found playing cards or backgammon on one of the red-checked tables or checking in with his long list of favorite regulars. And let's just say the guy could keep up with his raucous prep school patrons.

"Mr. Dorrian’s charm, wit, and love of people informed and imbued not just the generations of locals and regulars who made the 'Red Hand' restaurant a 'second home' for now decades of families and lifelong friendships fostered in our little corner," the post continued. "To say he will be missed is indeed an understatement, as would be explaining his influence throughout the lives of many who knew him."
