Louis Armstrong House Museum
America’s jazz history dates back to as far as the early 20th century, beyond the days of Bebop and Gypsy jazz. Though evolving into a lasting musical style, much of its history may be lost in the old venues, cobblestone streets and homes of those musicians passed. One home, however, still remains in the outskirts of Manhattan. Former home to the musical man dubbed the world’s most famous jazz musician, the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Queens is open for visitors to behold the rich history behind the aged walls.
Still reminiscent of Armstrong’s legacy, the museum houses furnishings reflecting his family's 1940s lifestyle, not limited to thousands of photographs, recordings, reel-to-reel tapes, trumpets and letters.
The museum offers daily 40-minute guided tours.
