Grief and Grievance: Art and Mourning in America
This poignant new show at the New Museum feels especially timely, although it was originally conceived way back in 2018. Featuring 37 artists working in a variety of mediums, the exhibition explores loss, grief, and commemoration as a direct response to racist violence and the collective mourning of Black America. At its monumental center is this multi-layered installation by Rashid Johnson, which includes live plants, ceramic pots, televisions, light work, and more.
When: Through June 6
New Museum, 235 Bowery
