The Frick Collection's Fall Gala Is Going Virtual!

Where were you on that fateful day back in March when the city officially shut down and you realized that life was about to seriously change? I, for one, was in my closet getting ready to attend the Frick Young Fellows Ball, arguably one of the most anticipated events on the spring social calendar and by far my personal favorite party of the year. But alas, coronavirus had hit the city, the guidelines were rapidly changing, and just as I was heading to the office (to meet my Glamsquad) we received the bad news: the bash was cancelled. 

Most certainly for the best, that is, but still - my Frick dreams were dashed and I had no idea when I'd be able to relive them.

Well, now I have my answer! 

The Frick Collection just announced that its annual fall gala, an always glamorous affair that involves a gilded banquet in its galleries, is going virtual this October. It's the perfect solution for both the pandemic and the fact that the famous Frick mansion is currently undergoing some exciting new updates.

Dubbed Frick on the Move, the digital fete will feature inspirational programming and appearances by noted cultural luminaries, including artist Firelei Báez, singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash, writer and critic Moeko Fujii, designer, artist, and writer Maira Kalman, artist Julie Mehretu, pianist, composer, and conductor Nico Muhly, and historian Simon Schama. Additionally, guests will be treated to a special "Cocktails with a Curator" segment hosted by Xavier F. Salomon, the Frick’s Deputy Director, and Chief Curator, Peter Jay Sharp as well as a sneak peek of the mansion’s second floor, which will be transformed into public galleries during the building’s renovation project.
