Across the pond, self-styled "Lord" Edward Davenport started hosting "Gatecrasher Balls" for wealthy teens in the 1980s. The debaucherous parties ceased when he was brought up on tax evasion charges in 1990, and he served a brief prison sentence. Following those legal troubles, Davenport continued his shenanigans, running a series of "advance-fee fraud schemes" that scammed people out of millions. He was sentenced to over seven years in prison in 2011, but was released in 2014 due to poor health.
