Backlash
While there's definitely some irony at play, their efforts are honorable - and necessary. After all, who better to put their money where their mouths are than the rich people who've benefited from the fossil fuels quite literally fueling the climate crisis?
The respective nonprofits maintain that their funds go towards legal activities and legitimate civil action, but, of course, the Getty and Rockefeller heirs have received backlash (mostly from the right wing) with claims that they're paying "criminals" and "thugs" to "wreak havoc." (Leave it to the Daily Mail to freak out over this.)
