The Birkin Drama

Victims of the scam, who include high-ranking Manhattan social queens, allege that George falsely claimed a friendship with Hermès gatekeeper Michael Coste, convincing the wealthy women that he could obtain even the most exclusive pieces from the brand.

The jig was finally up when some of his friends-turned-clients brought their bags in to be authenticated and learned that they were indeed counterfeits. One surefire sign that they were fake? They were missing the unique "date stamp" used to identify every Birkin bag. Yikes.
