Infamous business bro turned scam artist Billy McFarland's fate has been sealed. The Fyre Festival founder who defrauded investors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, then charged rich kids insane prices for the "luxury music festival" in the Bahamas, has officially been sentenced to six years in prison.
In case you forgot, the debacle went down in April 2017, when festival-goers hoping to party alongside Instagram models and Blink-182 were left stranded in what was essentially a refugee camp plagued by feral dogs and cheese sandwiches. Horrifying, we know.
But besides totally f*cking over his customers, McFarland pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud, using bogus documents to mislead investors and funnel their funds.
According to Page Six, he also (very stupidly) took part in yet another scheme while he was out on bail for the Fyre crimes, earning $100,000 by selling fake tickets to exclusive events such as the 2018 Met Gala and Burning Man.
Don't these people ever learn? Well, maybe after six years in the slammer...
