Now here's something worth toasting!
Governor Kathy Hochul announced this week that she's moving to bring back the sale of takeaway cocktails - and make them a permanent thing in New York.
We knew we liked her.
If you stuck around the city at the height of the pandemic, you could probably thank those convenient boozy sips for keeping you sane and helping your favorite watering holes stay afloat. But the temporary provision, which was enacted by Governor Cuomo in March 2020, expired this past June.
As a part of her economic recovery plan (and in the midst of the highly contagious Omicron variant of COVID), Hochul shared her plans to permanently legalize the sale of to-go drinks, much to the delight of patrons and small businesses.
"Thousands of bars and restaurants, the souls of our neighborhoods, have had to close," Hochul said. "We're also going to do something bars and restaurants have been asking for; to once again allow the sale of to-go drinks — a critical revenue stream during the lean times last year."
Finally, a political move that everyone can agree with.
