Gibson + Luce
Sure, speakeasies in New York are a dime a dozen these days, but Gibson + Luce boasts some legit historical street cred (or so the rumor goes). Located under NoMad's Life Hotel, the bar (named after former LIFE magazine editors Charles Dana Gibson and Henry R. Luce) can be accessed through a secret stairwell or from the street with a code you can ask for on Instagram. Apparently the space had once really served as a speakeasy for editors during prohibition, a vibe reflected on the cheeky cocktail menu, which boasts drinks like the "Moveable Feast" and "Don't Say A Word." There's also an impressive bourbon, rye, and scotch selection, as well as filling bar snacks (ahem, a $21 burger that can be upgraded with foie gras).
