NYC Nightlife: Everything You Need To Know Tuesday!

A new Jazz club opens; Beer Gardens are taking over Manhattan (one has even sprung up in Bushwick!); Governors Island's first Brewers Pic went off with a few grumbles; Susanne Bartsch talks about her new party at Le Bain and more. Today's nightlife roundup is back to the daily grind, but with an added dose of German Beer!

1. New Jazz Club Opens [BoweryBoogie]

The Moldy Fig Jazz Bar has soft opened at 178 Stanton Street. Operated by Charles Brown of Fat Cat, there will be nightly jam sessions. There is also a full-size shuffleboard, a range of board games, and foosball in the basement. A pool table is on its way. Right now it's just drinks and jazz, but they will be getting a food menu by the time they "officially" open on July 4.

2. New Drinking Establishment Trend: The Beer Garden [NYT]

There are some 54 beer gardens in NYC and more, like Mario Batali's La Birreria, keep popping up. The Times gets some snarky, fear-based quotes from those who have been in the game longest and ponders the reason for the surge:

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that New York’s drinking zeitgeist has passed, in succession, from the Belle Epoque-ish wine bar to the pre-crash Jazz Age cocktail lounge, to the Weimar-flavored biergarten, with its whiffs of hyperinflation and the Munich Beer Hall Putsch. Of course, it is also true that people like beer and will tend to drink it in large amounts, while sitting outside at long, communal tables in the sun.

3. Even Bushwick Getting Its Own Pop-Up Beirgarten! [Grubstreet]]

Farmcart, the Bushwick-based sandwich-delivery service, is jumping on board the Beer Garden movement. They will be hosting their very own during Bushwick Open Studios and a few other weekends throughout the summer at the Moore Street Market.  Coney Island Lager as well as some German weiss beers will be served up with their sandwiches. Mark your calendars now for June 3-5.

4. Brewers Pic NYC Goes Off With A Few Hitches [DNAInfo] [Image Via MetroMix]

Beer connoisseurs who head to Governors Island for the first annual Brewers' Pic Nyc ran into a few problems. Booze hounds were told to show up at 11am, but libations were not served until noon due to NY State's blue law,  which regulates the purchase of alcohol.

VIP attendees also complained they were not able to cut lines for beer and food as the premier-priced $85 tickets originally advertised. Regularly priced tickets went for between $15 and $45. By the next day though, everything had been sorted out.

5. State Liquor Authority Racist? [NYDN]

Tribeca's Puerto Rican hotspot Sazón is accusing the SLA, and members of lower Manhattan's Community Board 1 of discriminating against the lounge because its customers aren't "from this neighborhood."

"Since I've opened this restaurant, I have been treated completely unfairly," said owner Genaro Morales, who was recently rejected when he applied for permission to open a bar in his downstairs lounge on Reade St. Also denied was a request to stay open until 4a.m. on weekends and book live bands and deejays.

6. Susanne Bartsch Talks New Glam Meatpacking Party "On Top" [TheFeast]

After the first "On Top" party thrown by Susanne Bartsch held on Tuesday's at Le Bain, we wondered whether or not this would become one of the hottest parties in town. Looks like it's well on its way with the second event being just as wild, crazy, costumed, and plain Bartsch as the first. The Feast sits down and talks to her about bringing her signature style of glam decadence back to the Meatpacking District.
