Starbucks Has Some BIG News For New Yorkers

Attention fellow caffeinistas, Olsen twins, and overworked New Yorkers: there's something major happening on the coffee front. Our favorite Seattle-based, mermaid toting java giant, Starbucks, is staking a claim in Manhattan that may finally mark its official domination of the city. 

A massive, 20,000-square-foot "roastery" (fancy!) is set to open in the Meatpacking District at 61 Ninth Avenue sometime in 2018. Marrying our need for artisanal with our love for mass-market consumerism, this special Starbucks location will feature small-batch coffees, rare brews, and, apparently, those giant theatrical coffee bean containers above. Very Blue Bottle, very chic. 

According to SBUX, the roastery experience likens coffee to art (we mean, it is) and invites customers to "interact with Starbucks roasters and baristas in order to deepen their understanding" of the craft. The first location of this kind was opened back in 2014 in the company's hometown to sensational reviews. And if New York is as snobby about its coffee as Seattle is (no question), it seems this immersive Starbucks experience will fare just fine. Let's just hope the rent prices don't drive us all into the sea within the next few years.
