We've been having some problems figuring this whole Vevo thing out. And we're not the only ones. But if a kickoff party is a good way to gauge the future success of a product, then Google and YouTube's new music video channel should have little trouble overcoming early speed bumps. d d
Vevo is basically a YouTube annex for music videos. The quality of the videos is purportedly higher as well, if you can find and play them to begin with. One benefit seems to be that you won't have to wade through amateur recreations of Grizzly Bear videos done my mopey high school a cappella nerds to get to the real thing.
Musicians were out in full anticipation of the launch (and of their appearance paychecks) last night at the Splashlight Studios. Bono, Sheryl Crow, Ciara, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, John Mayer, Shaniah Twain and, ugh, Justin Bieber all showed up. Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert performed and miraculously appear to have avoided the controversial spectacles that usually accompany their gigs. Speaking of controversial spectacles, check out the geeky shades on Timberlake (top left).
