Where To Watch: Free Summer Movie Screenings!

Ahhh the summer is here. Long days and longer nights filled with lounging and laughing and sharing movies with old friends and new friends. Check out these free movie screenings in the city that will make you nostalgic for old memories and help create a few new ones along the way.

WHERE TO GO:

Tribeca Grand

Every Sunday evening at 8:30pm, nestle yourself into one of the plush chairs in Tribeca Grand’s theater for free screenings that pay tribute to anything ranging from New York City itself to the changing seasons. [Details]

Jane Hotel

The DJ duo comprised of Haley Wollens and Julia Burlingham host a Monday Night Moves over at The Jane Hotel, a fun-tastic free film screening/dance party series. The movie starts at 9pm followed by music and dancing! [Details]

Bryant Park

Classic films are shown on a large screen in Bryant Park at dusk on Monday nights from June through August. Access to the grass for blankets and picnicking is available at 5:00 p.m. Bryant Park films begin at sunset, typically between 8 and 9 p.m. Get there early since you are not the only one who wants to watch a movie under the stars!

Brooklyn Bridge Park

Find your way to Pier 1 on the Harbor View Lawn and watch movies at the Brooklyn Bridge Park with Manhattan as the background. Shorts curated by BAMcinématek, DJs from Brooklyn Radio kick off the evening and bike valet provided by Transportation Alternatives, sponsored by Bike and Roll. Socrates Sculpture Park

Go to Socrates Sculpture Park on Wednesdays and sample regional cuisine from neighborhood restaurants, picnic on the grass as the sun sets over the city, enjoy performances by local musicians and dancers and, as the sky darkens, see exceptional international films on a large-format screen. Movies begin on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Pier 1 in Riverside Park South, located on the Hudson River at 70th Street. This year's theme is Terror Through the Decades including films from The Invisible Man (1933) to Mars Attacks (1996). [Details]

Central Park Film Festival

From August 23-27, 2011, the five day festival will showcase films that celebrate great musicians and the best in popular music, with each night showcasing an American musical icon.
