In writing the book, and bringing the subject to light amongst your peers, was there a sense of catharsis?
I say that I wrote myself out of the belly of the whale, so yes, there was a sense of catharsis. The book helped me see the common threads between my experience and the stories of so many women around the world, regardless of class, creed, or nation. The book has been out for just over a week, and I am already thrilled with how much debate is taking place. We have to talk about this subject, and we don’t have to see eye-to-eye. Too many people experience the same struggles, and together we can identify ways to prevent or lessen the suffering. [Photo courtesy of John Robshaw]
