They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but not when it reaches full-on stalker status.
Chloe Cowan, a student at the University of Dundee in Scotland, recently learned just how horrifying Instagram could be when she came across the account of a stranger who had been meticulously recreating her Instagram posts for the past two years. We're talking outfit, pose, backdrop - right down to the caption.
According to the Daily Mail, the sister of the girl getting Single White Female-d shared the story on Facebook, along with 40 photos showing the nearly identical pairs of 'grams. The Facebook post, which has since been deleted, explained that the doppelganger was a fellow student at the university, but that the victim of this bizarre situation had never met her.
Cue shivers.
"Don't even know where to start with this but just want to let people know the dangers of social media... My sister Chloe is at Dundee university and another girl living in Dundee (who my sister wasn't aware of until this week) has been reenacting her life on instagram for almost 2 years," the Facebook post read.
"This [girl's] stalking behaviour is to the extreme of reenacting videos of a photo album that Chloe posted of my dad who [passed] away (gives me the shivers when I think about it)... This girl doesn't follow my sister on social media and had made a fake account to stalk her without her knowing."
The copycat, "Honey Basra" (if that IS her real name!!), has now deleted her Instagram account, but there are plenty more examples over at the Daily Mail.
If this isn't a reason to make your account private (or just go off the grid altogether), we don't know what is.
