So often during times of crisis, women are left to bear the brunt of labor - both emotionally and literally. As the New York Times recently reported, about 52% of the country's essential workforce right now is made up of women. Another way to look at this statistic: one in three jobs held by women in the U.S. has been deemed essential. From nurses to grocery store clerks, women are often the unsung heroes keeping things running, while simultaneously being both underpaid and undervalued. But there's no doubt about how powerful they (we!) can be.
In an effort to celebrate the power of women, and inspire young girls across the world, Commit2Change, a non-profit that provides education for orphaned girls in South Asia, has launched a social media campaign to spread positivity and ignite hope. #AsWomen asks us to share what it means to be a woman in the world, and plenty of fashionistas, It Girls, and influencers across the 'gram have already taken up the hashtag to spread the message.
The awareness campaign continues through May, so share your own story and scroll down for some of our favorite posts so far.

View this post on InstagramIt’s the last day of Women’s History Month, but #aswomen it’s important to support each other now more than ever. In this time of collective unrest, let’s build each other up and encourage everyone’s unique voice to shine through the uncertainty. Call a friend who needs it, pay a compliment whenever you think of it, support a small business or an entrepreneur when you can. Thank you @commit2change_ for growing female voices through education and reminding us of the privilege many of us are born into, just by being able to learn. 🙌🏼 #commit2change #womensmonth

View this post on InstagramBeing a woman to me is not fitting into a picture perfect box. #AsWomen we should be able to express ourselves creatively, intellectually, spiritually as well as embracing everything about us even our flaws. My message to all women is that all shall be revealed and we will be ok as long as we have our community 🎀 I’m hoping to spread some positivity and awareness with @commit2change_ and @driamurphy during these unprecedented times - sending love to all women #stayempowered #commit2change ❤️

View this post on Instagram#Aswomen, we shine when we are confident. Where does confidence come from? I know one of my greatest sources of confidence stems from knowing that I’m a part of an incredible network of women who are committed to living meaningful lives. I can’t imagine life without the friends and mentors who encourage me to share my gifts with the world. We all have gifts to share. The more we can encourage others to recognize the light inside of themselves the brighter the world will be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As women, it’s important that we lift each other up. Confidence can come from within, but it can also arise from the encouragement of a friend. If you can do something to encourage another woman or girl to develop or share her gifts - all parties will be lifted up. It’s a circle. Cheers to @commit2change_ in their efforts to support the lives of orphaned girls through education. There is no greater gift. Thank you @driamurphy for encouraging me to write this post. ♥️ I encourage you to hashtag — aswomen — and share your thoughts on what makes a woman shine 🌟.

View this post on Instagram#AsWomen we support each other when we are at our lowest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some Chicago physicians reported mask shortages, so Sonal Ghandi, a C2C Board of Advisor, and her friends quickly designed & manufactured these *cute* masks to be used over an N95 mask to extend reusability for front-line COVID docs. They have already delivered over 12K masks to University of Chicago hospital, the VA hospital, Advocate Lutheran General, Christ, and Edwards Elmhurst. The demand is so high and these women are helping make a difference. Thank you Sonal for inspiring us to continue to #commit2change ❤️🙏

View this post on Instagram#AsWomen we shine our light for each other through times of darkness ✨ #commit2change . . . . . Now, more than ever, it is crucial for us to come together to help each other. So many people, families, industries are being affected by this pandemic. Do your part - whatever that means for you. Whether it’s staying home, donating supplies, donating funds, spreading awareness about something that hits home for you - do it. The smallest act of kindness might save someone’s life. If you wake up and you have a roof over your head, food to eat, water to drink, work to do during this time of uncertainty - BE GRATEFUL. There are SO many people out there that haven’t been afforded the luxury of those 4 things. Once this is all over, I hope we all continue to support and encourage each other to be the best versions of ourselves (now and everyday thereafter).

View this post on Instagramof course I’m missing our studio these days but i couldn’t be prouder of how @thenessnyc has taken on the digital world. I look forward to mondays when we drop the newness on the platform and daily live classes so I can virtually sweat with friends and clients on the west and east coast. #aswomen we have to lean on each other during these times of change. I’m so grateful to have a team that can come together and thrive through it all. hoping we can spread this sense of togetherness to those who need it most @commit2change_ #myness
