I finished at Barney’s, and it was cool, because I got styled by the designer, so that night, I was telling my friends about it, and the reason I told you that little quick side story before is because (he chuckles) this is funny, actually. My friends always wanted me to make a blog. And when we used to do parties, we would get write ups sometimes, and they would always mention something about—not always, but sometimes—mention something about my style, and they would get it wrong. I wouldn’t care, it’s funny, but, they would say, like, ‘Bohemian Hipster,’ all these things like that, and it just was wrong. The morning after the party was my real birthday, Abe & Arthur’s was just opening, we were about to go to dinner, and my friends mentioned to me, hey, do you remember you said last night that you dress like a grungy gentleman. Some of them said, ‘Oh, you should buy the website,’ and some of them got a little stronger with it. And I just said yes to them, to please them. And then when they got a little stronger, I got a little more defiant. So I pushed back a little bit. And I was like, ‘I’m hungry, it’s my birthday, let’s go, let’s leave.’ So they kind of tease me, one of my friends pushed my laptop at me, and at the same time one of my other friends was like ‘It’s only $9.99 to buy a website,’ so I was thinking my friends are probably going to buy me dinner, it’s my birthday, got a couple extra bucks in my pocket, so I reply, ‘If I buy this website right now, can we get out of here and go eat?’ And they said yes. And I did. Two weeks went by, and on GQ I saw that one of my favorite brands, Gant Rugger, was opening a store in the West Village. So I thought to myself, ‘I should call them to just feel it out. I went into the store and four hours later I had an interview with the designer, Christopher Bastin, and from there I got a graphic designer to make a logo, and a web designer to make a website, and that’s it.
