He may have started as "A Guy Named Patrick," but Patrick Janelle has most certainly grown into "The Guy Named Patrick."
Whether he's posted up on some exotic location, or luxuriating on his Flatiron fire escape, everyone's buying what this lifestyle influencer turned talent agency founder is selling. Picture perfect nonchalance.
Curious what's on the too-cool tastemaker's holiday wish list this holiday season?
How do you celebrate the holidays?
My boyfriend and I alternate between holidays with our families in either Colorado or Ontario. Either way, snowboarding and skiing is always involved!
Where will you be this season?
Canada! Before I met my boyfriend, Matt, I had no idea Ontario had such a strong winter ski culture. HIs family has a cabin a few hours north of Toronto, near Collingwood, where there are a handful of private ski clubs. Which means we not only get to spend time with his family but all of the close family friends he grew up with, too.
Are you a last-minute or way-in-advance shopper?
Definitely last-minute. But I'm also the type that would rather buy something for someone any time I see something that makes me think of them. So while I'm a terrible occasion gift giver, I knock it out of the park with surprise gifts.
What's the best gift you've ever received?
Last year, my boyfriend found a pair of antique andirons for our fireplace—a working fireplace in NYC! If there's one way to my heart, it's with obscure utilitarian items that are also gorgeous. He nailed it.
Who's the toughest to shop for on your list?
Like I said, I'm a terrible occasion gift giver. So I actually don't worry about anyone too hard. If I'm at a loss, I just send a loving text and keep my eye open for the moment inspiration strikes another time.
What's your go-to hostess gift?
The babka from Breads Bakery. If you know, you know. And if you don't, it's the best crowd-pleasing surprise.
Favorite spots around town to pick up something in person?
I usually stop by SKU, on Lafayette, after grabbing a coffee next door at Gasoline Alley. If you're not afraid of breaking the bank, Roman and Williams Guild always has the most lovely things. Pink Olive in the West Village is a favorite when shopping for little ones. And when in doubt, Diptyque—I love their Nolita boutique.
Any particularly festive plans or traditions you're most looking forward to this year?
A festive afternoon in Midtown. The itinerary: lunch at Jupiter, the fantastic Italian restaurant from the owners of King which sits rinkside at Rock Center, scanning the beauty counter at Bergdorf, with a stop at Guerlain for their complimentary face massages, perusing windows on 5th Avenue, early dinner at the Polo Bar.
What's on your list to get?
I'm probably the hardest on the list to shop for TBH, so I'm not expecting much. My love language is acts of service, and Matt makes our bed every morning, so I'm set.
What's on your list to give?
I love keeping an eye out for things when I travel throughout the year, so my list reflects both new discoveries and old favorites:
- Canned Coffee Soda from Comeback Coffee in Memphis, TN
- Loewe Soap on a Rope
- Bottled Cocktails from Via Carota
- Ceramic Mugs from Silène Fry Atelier
- Body Care Amenities from White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, Maine
- Scented Taper Candles from Carrière Frères
- Body Oil from Biography
