- AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization committed to improving the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS in developing countries and immigrants in the United States. AFAI Founder and Executive Director, Jesús Aguais, created the \'My Hero\' Awards program to recognize the humanitarian achievements of individuals who have greatly advanced the organization\'s core mission. The 2009 \'My Hero\' honorees are Mark Consuelos, television and film actor, for his unrelenting commitment to raise awareness in the fight against HIV and AIDS; Dr. Julio Jose Frank Mora, Dean of the Faculty at the Harvard School of Public Health, for his tireless work to improve care for people living with HIV and AIDS through public policy reform; Daphne Rivera, for her role as an activist working to improve quality of life for people living with HIV; and Scotiabank, for their unprecedented leadership in corporate responsibility on HIV and AIDS. The Gala will be co-chaired by former \'My Hero\' honorees Narciso Rodriguez (‘07), fashion designer, and Vivian Fernández de Torrijos, former 1st Lady of Panama (‘06). The event will also feature a special performance by Latin Grammy-winning singer Milly Quezada.
