Founded in 1996, the Lower Eastside Girls Club is a non-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to providing a place where economically disadvantaged girls and young women ages 8-23 can grow, learn, have fun, and develop confidence in themselves and their ability to make a difference in the world. The Willow award winners honored Tuesday included Ana Angel of Angel Farms, who works with the Girls Club’s “Farm Girls Brand” healthy food business; Archie Gottesman of Edison Properties / Manhattan Mini Storage, which works with the Girls Club’s entrepreneurial training programs; Jana Napoli, Founder, and Baty Landis, Executive Director, of Young Aspirations / Young Artists, which provides arts and career programming to the youth of New Orleans; and Rosemonde Pierre-Louis, Manhattan Deputy Borough President, leading NYC’s “Go Green” initiatives. Two other awards were given to Frances Goldin, for over 60 years of community activism, and Bob Holman for being, quote, the “King of poetry, Dean of the scene, Ringmaster of the spoken word."
