For over a decade California native Rebecca Vanyo has been a familiar, fashionable face on the New York scene. From runway front rows to glitzy galas, the It Girl slash couture collector slash reiki healer (!!!) is forever the most stylish person in the room.
For this year's Save Venice masquerade ball, the grand dame of New York high society events, Vanyo made a most verdant, spring-inspired entrance, in keeping with the soirée's 'La Primavera' theme.
Certainly anyone would have assumed her look had been months in the making - but alas, calling an ensemble audible last minute before the black tie affair? Vanyo's certainly not one to get sartorially shaken up by the odd unexpected wrench thrown into things...
How far in advance did you start planning your outfit?
I commissioned a Couture dress from Roberto Cavalli. It was a modernized version of an incredible gown from their Fall 2004 collection.
I went to try it on a day before the event and it was too tight! I collect gowns and fortunately had this amazing Prada that I had purchased years ago in my closet. It was perfect for the theme of the Ball this year, 'La Primavera.'
What was your inspiration?
Both dresses had reflective embellishments and embroidery. I wanted the dress to be bright and catch the light.
How long does it take you to get ready for an event like this?
I begin planning a few months in advance. My gown collection has come in handy - I am always ready and have something to wear!
Who are you wearing?
My gown is by Prada, my earrings are custom Michele Della Valle and my butterfly clutch is Judith Leiber.
Tips to lasting all night in heels?
I wear platforms. It helps prevent the bottom of my dress from getting damaged and I am less likely to trip over the dress. I also find that they are way more comfortable than stilettos.
How many times have you been to Save Venice?
This is my second year. Last year was my first and I won!
Do you enjoy dressing for a theme?
I love a good theme party.
What's the biggest fashion emergency you've had at a formal event?
I had my Monique Lhuillier gown dry cleaned at one of the top cleaners in the city. The process was too harsh and the boning practically disintegrated. I didn't try it on again before the event and when I put it on the dress kept falling down. I had to keep a stole over my chest the entire night because the dress wouldn't stay up.
What are you packing in your bag?
Lipstick, cash, and mints!
