Yesterday Andrew Parker's Upper East Side boutique Parker played host to a fundraiser for Trail Blazers. Trail Blazers is a is an award winning youth program that gives city kids the opportunity to get out of sticky New York for a few weeks in the summer. Campers experience camaraderie, fun, a bit of structure, and some reading lessons snuck in for good measure through outdoor experiential education, mentoring and leadership training. Campers plan their own activities including nature hikes, boat rides, swimming and all the other typical camp-type-fun-stuff, while living, playing and eating family style.
I spoke with Kate Sullivan executive director of Trail Blazers who told me Trail Blazers was stared over 120 years ago by then Life Magazine editor as a way to just get kids out of the city who would not have had the opportunity to do so otherwise, and continues that mission to this day. I also spoke to former campers Kalle, 18 and Rolanda, 20 whose positive experience with Trail Blazers left them wanting more and now actually working for the organization.
Parker was filled to the gills with its signature designs and clothing from other designers all at quite a nice discount with proceeds going to Trail Blazers. Shop for a good cause indeed. If you didn't make it out last night you can still help Trail Blazers by donating at their website HERE. Plus Porter got some pictures so you check out what you slept on.
