This time of year is like the social Olympic season - hopping from one company dinner to the next year-end bash without so much as a tear in one's (bedazzled) tights. In fact we'd be surprised if there are enough LBDs and reindeer-pattered rep ties in all of New York to dress this busy readership. Anyway with tonight's slate of media parties in mind, I whipped up this little What-To-Wear for easy inspiration. Year-end bonus not included.
Clockwise from top left: silver Blackberry; Karl Donaghue rabbit fur and leather earmuffs, Net-a-Porter; Jil Sander gathered taffeta dress, Net-a-Porter; Fireburst dress, French Connection; Sequin clutch, ASOS; Lourdes crystal-encrusted black tights, Pret-a-Beaute; Little Shilling dress, French Connection; Judith Jack Luster onyx ring, Zappos; Helmut Lang rabbit fur snood, Start London; J.Crew Dollop sequined wool jacket, Net-a-Porter; Miu Miu glitter-finish pumps, Net-a-Porter; Grey pearl and diamond earrings, Overstock. Powered by Polyvore.
Correct me if I'm wrong but holiday parties seem like the only truly appropriate time to wear sequins in a corporate setting. Not that tonight's cocktail-fueled soirees will seem too corporate. Which is why you can get away with sequins (and taffeta and skin). Stand out from the sparkling pack in a moody palette - mature enough for Slate's and the Daily News' parties but with enough glitter to survive at Time Out's fete. Things are looking up for 2011 so more is more is more is more, and I can see all the new media girls swanning around the bar in these silver and fur and currant pieces (although that Blackberry would probably be an iPhone if we were going to get technical).
