Fashion Week Trends

Fashion Week to most people means fabulous parties, celebrities, and an influx of paparazzi in Bryant Park. However, to others it is the ultimate forecast of what’s hot for fashion in the coming months. You will likely begin to see variations on these trends spotted on the runway last week hitting stores near you:

1. Harem Pants (aka MC Hammer pants): Retailers, such as TopShop,have started playing with this trend in small doses but it seems like it is starting to catch on. Spotted at Miss Sixty, Proenza Schouler, and Doo.Ri (pictured)

2. Asymmetry: One-shoulder looks were all over the runway and are going to make a major comeback. This time around the look is more refined and less 80’s inspired and is leaning more towards a Grecian and feminine aesthetic. Spotted at Erin Fetherston, Zac Posen (pictured), and Preen

3. Defining Accessories: Usually accessories play the role of dressing up apparel, but we found that more and more accessories were making statements on the runway. Namely DVF’s gorgeous headdresses, Marc Jacobs hats, and Phillip Lim’s belts. Seen at DVF, Phillip Lim, , Marc Jacobs (all pictured above)

4. Volume: It seems like the post-skinnies era is upon us! The runway was full of wide-leg flowing pants, extra full skirts, and very loose sleeves. Seen at Doo.Ri (pictured), Derek Lam (pictured), BCBG, and Erin Fetherston (pictured)

Trends that stayed from last year include high-waist pants and skirts, chiffon and silk, and lots of floral prints.

COLOR REPORT You may often see colors labeled as “Pantone” and find yourself wondering just what that means? Well, Pantone is the authority on all things color and they determine, based on trends, what color palettes of the seasons are going to be in fashion each season. Well, Pantone they just announced the official Spring 2009 line up. The colors are:

I personally love the Palace Blue, Super Lemon (which GOAG spotted early on), and Salmon Rose. The experts at Pantone gather inspiration from the latest runway looks, and this year some of the inspirations for the Spring line up included Erin Fetherston, Yigal Azrouël, and Nanette Lepore and Abaeté.
