Andre Leon Talley Has A Heart To Heart With Diane Von Furstenberg

Fashion Week is most notoriously known as a spectacle showcasing designs for fashion's powerful and connected. Except for last night. The mega-designer Diane Von Furstenberg presented her Spring '09 and upcoming Fall '09 collection to selected American Express cardholders and press. Essentially, those that tote the AmEx plastic could "buy an experience" (did they have to put it on the card?!) and attend. However, this show didn't ooze with as many celebs as a traditional show. I only caught glimpses of Fern Mallis and DVF's Alixe Boyer running around before the show. Ms. Boyer was the only glimpse of anything related to MTV's The City. With MTV and DVF working so closely together these days, weren't we all expecting to see Whitney Port? More story and photos below... I've been to my fair share of shows, but this one, even though it was meant for those new to the experience, was a little bit different and unexpected. Prior to the start of the fortunately long and appreciated runway presentation, Andre Leon Talley, editor-at-large for Vogue and Ms. Furstenberg engaged in a seated Q&A dialogue about her inspirations, the recession and what it's like to create a entire collection. Clad in her signature spring butterfly tunic, Ms. Furstenberg called her current looks "a freedom of color", which truly it was.
