Last Friday, January 8, the Jewelry Information Center hosted a dinner reception for its winners of the 8th Annual GEM Awards at Gotham Hall.
Humanitarian and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, winner of the GEM Award for Style, signed copies of her book Read My Pins for party guests and presumably wore some incredible jewelry.
Guests included style sage Simon Doonan and Tina Brown, founder and editor of The Daily Beast. Damon Dash, actress Lindsay Price, and stylist Robert Verdi were also present to pay respects to the industry that brought us such cultural phenomena as "bling", "ice", and of course that pre-recessionary bastion of the high life, Jacob the Jeweler.
The GEM awards are given each year by the JIC to honor entrepreneurs and experts in the industry of fine jewelry and watches. Albright, a famous collector of brooches, spoke of using her passion for jewelry and power as a world leader to further socially responsible initiatives in emerging economies.
