Best/Most Infamous: Lucien Smith's Macabre Suite, October 2015

It's still hard enough as it is to get the fashion crowd to a party in Brooklyn, but in 2015, just before Halloween, artist Lucien Smith pulled off the seemingly impossible: an A-list soiree in the Bronx. The warehouse rager was held in a former piano factory in the South Bronx, boasting large-scale sculptures of car skeletons, along with bonfires, rickety pianos, food trucks, and a performance by Travis Scott. Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Adrien Brody, and Naomi Campbell stopped by. However, what seemed to be a genuinely cool, underground-adjacent event turned out to be a marketing ploy by realtor Keith Rubenstein, who was trying to "revitalize" (read: gentrify) the area for the sake of his numerous properties. It was labelled as "controversial" and "tasteless," but I'll be honest, I had a great time.
