MoMA Hosts Benefit After Party For The 2010 Armory Show

[All photos by Amber De Vos for PMc] Groups of young, avid art supporters joined forces last night at the MoMA as they danced and mingled in support of The 2010 Armory Show.

The annual Armory Show, located on Piers 92 and 94, is a fair devoted to the most important artwork of the 20th and 21st centuries. During Armory Arts Week, over 50,000 visitors come to enjoy the assortment of incredible pieces compiled from over 230 art galleries across the world.

Guest enjoyed an early preview of the fair yesterday, which runs from March 4th-7th, and celebrated the art work at The Armory Show's benefit evening after party at the MoMA.

Indie rock band, The Walkmen, set the group of onlooking art lovers into a massive dance party as they jammed on stage of the MoMA's Agnes Gund Garden Lobby. Experimental band, Human Rights, also contributed to the atmosphere, performing their eclectic tunes.

At the Armory Show's press conference this past Wednesday, MoMA director, Glenn Lowry, took time to appreciate what the art fairs do for the city:

We are deeply grateful for what this fair does for New York City. These events not only bring together thousands of people and hundreds of galleries, they really are opportunities to think about art – and especially contemporary art – in the largest context possible. It’s absolutely remarkable.

We couldn't agree with Glenn any more, and with the amount of art fairs and exhibitions on display this week, these art supporters have a million reasons to celebrate. And by the looks of it, they utilized the MoMA's after party as a way to let loose of some of that pent up creative energy.
