Hip Hop Soul Jam, And The World Of Gio Ponti

Early 20th century Italian design, and Hip Hop: two completely different worlds that were both celebrated somewhere in Manhattan last night.-

Gio Ponti was one of the most important designers and architects of the 20th century. Last night, Molteni & C hosted a party in his honor, teaming up with the Ponti heirs for a collection of chairs, shelving and floor coverings. The highlight of the collection is a metal chair , originally designed by Ponti himself in the 1930s. Guests at the party sipped champagne and walked around the showroom, where they were able to peruse not only Ponti's designs but photographs of Ponti's life, as well as insights into the Pirelli skyscraper, Ponti's most lasting legacy.

After a successful fundraising event earlier this summer to benefit earthquake relief in Haiti, Hip Hop Soul Jam hosted another event at City Winery last night, this time in conjunction with the United Nations summit to end extreme poverty.

Emerging hip hop artists (including some very, very young ones!) came out to perform and lend their voices for global change. The concerts, which occur four times a year, are produced by Hip Hop Saves Lives, a charitable organization dedicated to using Hip Hop for positive change.
