Asellina Celebrates Its One Year Anniversary With Carnivale-ian Revelry

Last night, Ristorante Asellina celebrated its one-year anniversary with an Italian Carnivale-themed fete. Revelers, among them DJ Sky Nellor, 30 Rock star Leah Briggs, and Geffrey Yabes of GSY Media, seemed imported straight from a Venetian piazza, sporting masks, feather boas, and Italian couture specifically for the occasion.

Body contortionists, jugglers, and exotic dancers were interspersed through the stylish crowd, which sipped on Grey Goose, Bacardi, and Dewar’s cocktails and enjoyed such hors d’oeuvres as veal mousse-stuffed fried olives, risotto balls, and wild mushroom pizzas.

A duo disguised in pink wigs, sunglasses, and bandanas drew attention to one corner of the room, where they sat at a table, typing furiously. Called The Bumbys, the pair offered “A Fair and Honest Appraisal” to any guest looking for a critique of his or her appearance that evening. Only the beautiful, the brave, or the inebriated dared approach.

Afterward, Asellina served a dinner to VIPs, who enjoyed music from DJ Kallkutta and a special performance from a rock guitarist. Any open space became an impromptu dance floor, and guests toasted to the spirit of Carnivale and the one-year anniversary of one of New York’s finest restaurants.
