Ron Paul

Ron Paul- Republican
What You Need To Know: This Congressman from Texas had a career in the Air Force as a medical doctor before entering politics. At 75, he is the oldest candidate in the run for the GOP nomination. Paul has campaigned for the presidential office twice before, once in 1988, and the last time in 2008. He placed second in the Ames straw poll after Michele Bachmann. Factor which may influence his standing in the polls: Even though he was termed the "intellectual godfather" of the Tea Party movement, his stance is libertarian, thus differing from true Republican or Democratic views. Quote: "The Founding Fathers envisioned a robustly Christian yet religiously tolerant America, with churches serving as vital institutions that would eclipse the state in importance." [via] We suppose Thomas Jefferson being the man who wrote about the "wall of separation of church and state" and his being an atheist can be ignored.
